Comments: * Thieme-Becker 26; Vollmer 3; Gutenberg 8072. - Monogrammed in the print. "He had learned the profession of decorative painter. He was also active in the preservation of monuments in Basel, namely in the facsimile recording of newly uncovered wall paintings. He learned the wood cut, for which he had little time besides his main job, self-taught. Between 1900 and 1920 he created more than 100 woodblock prints with up to seven color plates. He created pastel-like bookplates with sometimes 5-6 color plates. The real world is shown in an episodic excerpt, without any deep meaning, but always with a refreshingly cheerful or contemplative color scheme. An artist's portfolio with 20 ex-libris in an edition of 200 copies appeared in the Basel book and art print shop Bertschi in 1908. "(Heinz Neumaier) - Minimally blotchy.
