    Ade, Mathilde (1877-1953):
    [1917]. 97 x 68 mm. Etching.
    Language: German
    Order number: 13082
Comments: * Thieme-Becker 1; Vollmer 1; Gutenberg 146; Kern et al. 304. - Signed in the print. Walter von Zur Westen has named Ade "the chief representative of humor in German bookplate art", and that gets to the heart of the matter. Her more than 300 sheets, almost all of which were created between 1900 and 1925, have a constant inner trait (Ade bookplates are immediately recognizable as such), but her motifs are very different and she almost always finds a very individual relationship to the owner. She finds her mastery in the often colored, filigree drawings that are still actively collected today. - Minimally stained.
