Comments: * Thieme-Becker 26; not with Gutenberg; Idol B 115. - Hand-signed as well as monogrammed and dated in the print. MEPH (his standard monogram) was born in Zwickau, attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Dresden from 1904 to 1908 and studied at the Dresden Art Academy until 1913 with, among others, Oskar Zwintscher, Gotthardt Kuehl and Richard Müller. After that he works freelance. He created around 140 bookplates, mostly as etchings. The female nude and Rococo figures are his main motifs. Philipp is the master of the state prints, which he almost always signed and numbered, often with remarques. One of his favorite motifs is the monkey, which he also used for his own sheets. - Small remnants of assembly on the back.
