Comments: * Gutenberg 4518. - Monogrammed and dated in the print. Although Hübner created a rich oeuvre of bookplates, very little is known about him. In the owner directory of the German Exlibris Society from 1910 it says: "Painter and etcher, Berlin NW 87, Zinzendorferstr. 7 ". He is not represented in the relevant artist encyclopedias, which is certainly also due to the fact that he died very young. His own paper refers to his job as a lawyer. In 1906 he received his doctorate in Leipzig with a thesis on "The legal position of the captain in relation to the ship's crew", which was submitted under the name Erich Fritz Huebner. Further legal literature cannot be determined. Hübner does not have any artistic training, but his work as an autodidact is impressive. The influence of Japanese culture on his work and his passion for the maritime is unmistakable. He died in the Kapp Putsch at the age of 37. - Good copy.
