From 1859 to 1865 he studied with Schirmer in Karlsruhe and Des Coudres in Basel, after which he worked in Munich and Frankfurt am Main. From 1899 to 1919 he was an academy professor and gallery director in Karlsruhe. He has designed over 50 bookplates, including many algraphs in the unmistakable Thoma style. - Good copy.
