Description

When I spotted this cute little platter and immediately thought  - Saint Patrick's Day!  It is hard to find items to celebrate the occasion that don't have a drinking theme, or make the Irish look just a bit boorish.  This darling platter would be such a nice background piece for a St. Patrick's Day or Spring mantel.  And, honestly, it is a great size for the buffet table or even a small dinner party.  Wouldn't asparagus look cute on it?
This pattern is from Grindley England Hotel Ware retailed by Burley & Company Chicago  no. 43.  I believe this mark was used from 1908-1933.  It has the feel of diner ware - heavy and smooth and sturdy.  I was only able to locate one other piece in the same pattern and it was not identified.  It is interesting to note that none of the other Grindley Hotel Ware platters available in my searches has design elements in the center as well as the rim.  The background is grayish white with a rim of green leaves, flowers and vines around the outside rim and in the center.  While they are not shamrocks, they sure could pass for ones in a display!
This platter is in used vintage condition.  It has utensil marks on the surface and spots of rusty discoloration on the back.  The paint is wonderful condition - no rubbing or paint loss.

Platter measures approx. 10 1/2" x 7 3/8" x 1 1/4"
